Colonel James Braddock (Chuck Norris) survives a brutal stint in a Vietnamese POW camp, but he believes that even after the war ends enemy forces are still secretly holding American men captive. Eventually, he is tapped by the president to go overseas and search for U.S. soldiers who went missing years ago. Once in Saigon, Braddock learns that his suspicions are correct, so he teams up with reckless fellow veteran Tuck (M. Emmet Walsh) and stages a violent rescue mission in the jungle.

Een Amerikaanse kolonel, James Braddock (Norris), is ervan overtuigd dat er nog landgenoten gevangen zitten in Vietnam, maar kan dat niet bewijzen. Daarom neemt hij zelf maar de touwtjes in handen. Samen met een andere Vietnam-veteraan dringt hij diep door in de jungle, waar hij inderdaad Amerikaanse gevangenen kan bevrijden. Op de terugtocht stuiten ze echter op een konvooi vijandige soldaten. Routineuze actiefilm, waarin op bijna sadistische manier een onmogelijke reddingsoperatie in beeld wordt gebracht. De boodschap is duidelijk. De Amerikaanse Vietnam-nederlaag had voorkomen kunnen worden met types als Braddock of Rambo. In hun eentje, halveren ze de bende infantiele idioten waaruit het communistische leger blijkbaar bestond. Het idiote scenario werd geschreven door James Bruner en op film gezet door Joao Fernandes. De voorgeschiedenis wordt verteld in MISSING IN ACTION II en voor wie er dan nog niet genoeg van heeft is er nog BRADDOCK: MISSING IN ACTION III.
